General Etiquette
& Hygiene
At Union Jiu Jitsu, we prioritize creating a welcoming and respectful environment for all students.
Maintaining a sense of community starts with upholding general etiquette and hygiene on and off the mats. We’re committed to keeping our training space clean, safe, and ready for everyone to enjoy. By working together to follow simple practices—such as wearing clean gear, practicing good personal hygiene, and respecting one another—we can ensure a positive atmosphere where every student feels valued and motivated to grow.
General Etiquette
Positive Atmosphere and Community
At Union Jiu Jitsu, we are dedicated to fostering a positive atmosphere where every student feels supported and motivated. Our sense of community is built on mutual respect, encouragement, and teamwork, ensuring that everyone can focus on learning and growing together. When we work as a team, we create an environment where success thrives both on and off the mats.
Please come to class with a positive attitude and remember to greet your instructor and classmates.
Make new students and visitors feel welcome in our academy. Introduce yourself.
Remove all jewelry and makeup before class.
If you are late to class, please ask for permission to participate from the instructors.
Class participation requires that you are involved in every portion of the class, specifically: the warm-up, technique, drilling, and live training. If you are injured and cannot participate in a part of the class, please discuss this with an instructor beforehand.
If you need to purchase or discuss business matters, please do so at the beginning or end of class to maintain the class dynamic.
Young children should be supervised at all times and cannot climb, run around, or play loudly during class.
While we encourage you to study with partners and share your knowledge, please refrain from teaching or instructing during class unless you have the instructor’s permission.
Hygiene
Clean and Safe Training Space
We are committed to maintaining a clean and safe martial arts school where everyone can train confidently. By treating our space with care and following good hygiene practices, we ensure a healthy environment for all. Let’s work together to uphold these standards, keeping our mats and community ready for learning and success!
Remove all outdoor footwear before stepping on the mat. While removing footwear, refrain from stepping onto non-matted or outdoor space with your bare feet. Sandals or other footwear must be worn at all times off the mat.
Wash your training gear after every class. Keep your toenails and fingernails trimmed and clean; long hair should be pulled back or braided; offensive body odor will not be tolerated.
If you have any skin infections or are currently, please be considerate of your peers and stay off the mats.
If you are scraped during training, please clean and cover the wound before continuing. If you notice blood on the mat, please notify a staff member so it can be washed and disinfected immediately.
We highly recommend that you shower immediately after class. As this has been shown to reduce the possibility of skin injection significantly, you are welcome to shower before class as well.
Please pick up after yourselves both on and off the mat. Please take empty bottles or cans home, and all other garbage should be thrown out. Valuables such as wallets and jewelry will be kept lost and found. All leftover clothing and gear will be donated to charity.
Abiding by these guidelines will help keep our school a clean and enjoyable training place. Please do your part as a valued member of the family.
